Whyte are British, based in Hampshire, and have spent more than twenty years designing bikes around the weather and the trails we actually have rather than the ones in the brochure. Comfort, agility and handling come first. It is an approach that has won them a shelf of awards and made them a shop favourite here for years.

On gravel, the Tourus is the all-rounder, happy loaded up for a long weekend or stripped back for a fast loop, and the Verro takes the same frame somewhere quicker. Both are built around clearance for a proper tyre and mounts for the things that make a bike useful in February.

On mountain bikes, the 900 series hardtails are what built the reputation, long and slack and tough enough to embarrass bikes costing more. The Secta carries the same thinking into a kids bike that is genuinely worth riding rather than a scaled-down toy.
